Tyler Ras grew up in New Jersey, where he played his high school baseball and competed on the travel circuit with Tri State Arsenal. He participated in several premier high school showcase events, including East Coast Pro, the Area Code Games, and the Red Sox–Yankees Rivalry Classic.

Originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2018, Tyler chose instead to continue his development at the University of Alabama. A true two-way player, he served as a switch-hitting utility player and a starting pitcher for the Crimson Tide from 2019–2021. During his collegiate career, he earned honors such as SEC First-Team All-Defense and was a Gold Glove Finalist for pitchers across NCAA Division I Baseball.

Following his junior season, Tyler was drafted by the Colorado Rockies as a pitcher. He has spent the past five seasons competing within the Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros organizations.
