Description
During the winter and spring months, the Iowa Sticks run an individualized enhancement program. The program offers 15 classes/sessions each week for players to choose to participate in. The following enhancement classes are offered:
Enhancement Sessions/Lessons Overview
High School Enhancement Sessions
Through Sportsplex West, players will be given one-hour High School Enhancement Sessions to be used at their discretion throughout the season. These sessions will be placed in the athlete’s self-service account and must be used by the end of the program. Missed or unused sessions will not roll-over into lessons, fall/winter skills sessions, or personal training.
Athletes may enroll in any of the following programs with their High School Enhancement Sessions at their convenience:
Bat Speed Enhancement:
Offered weekly, these sessions consist of batting practice with heavy bats, overload bats, under-load bats, one handed bats, and weighted batting gloves. The program will also incorporate med ball work to build core strength and increase power.
Hitting Enhancement:
Hitting sessions are extensive batting practices focused on mechanics and repetitions. By breaking down the swing, players will discover the small details that will, overall, affect their hitting skills.
Fielding Enhancement:
Fielding sessions take place on the Sportsplex turf. Here, athletes will take ground balls from our computerized FungoMan machine. This machine is used by top baseball programs to simulate game-like fielding and maximize reps.
Velocity Enhancement:
This program is designed to increase arm strength and enhance throwing velocity. It consists of pre-throwing band exercises, long toss drills, and a post-throwing session with D1 Sports Training.
60-Yard dash Enhancement:
This program is facilitated by D1 Sports Training. Athletes will receive training, strategies, and skills to cut time off of their 60-yard dash.
Private Hitting/Pitching Lessons:
These sessions offer players the chance to have private, one-on-one lessons to work on game mechanics. These lessons focus on developing muscle memory and making key adjustments that will translate to future games.
Spring League (Mid-March - April)
The Iowa Sticks participate in the PBR (Prep Baseball Report) Spring League. This league hosts top club programs in Iowa in order to help players prepare for their high school seasons. Throughout this league, teams will play six weekends with one doubleheader each weekend. The goal of the PBR Spring League is to host the top players in the state, help athletes prepare for future seasons, and gain players next-level exposure.
